In all honesty, I am well behind the eight ball as for getting reaquainted with the details of this set up , and as such I have at this point no opinion as to what we decide for this season (I’m good with the 2 free buyourts and I’m good without it).
That said, I do intend to be as active as possible (a whole lot of other things on my plate, however).

This year should be a mulligan IMO. Contracts shouldn't count.

I am constantly thinking about the shortened season and how it will affect next year. Some teams will sign up to 10 free agents this season. With our rules, all 10 players one year contracts return next year. We only allow 3 player and contracts to be dropped penalty free.
I am thinking this idea makes better sense...We allow 2 players to be dropped next year from our original draft, penalty free. Any free agent signed this summer may be dropped next year penalty free. (no limit). Thus will protect teams who get hit hard with NA and IL.
Thoughts?
Usually free agents are signed for One year. They are fill ins for NA and IL players. That contract goes away automatically because we only signed him for a year. He would normally drop off. If you wanted to keep him it would cost 1.5 his one year salary. Why be forced to keep him? We may need, as a league way more than average free agents thus summer. If so, some marginal free agents might go for $3-$5 (supply and demand). We should be able to drop that player next year. He would be dropped automatically if this were a normal year.
I think I am going to change the rule. It makes sense to me.

Have to make a final decision on everything by tonight midnight. Free Agency starts tomorrow. And I begin to search for replacements. 15/20 managers are solid. 3 unsure and two a no at this point. Replacing Cubs and Athletics.
