Mission Statement:
Create a league environment where the process of playing the game is more “fun” than the outcome.
Overview:
I am retired. I grew up playing baseball through college. I watched limited MLB games. (No internet, no cable, no ESPN, only newspapers and 5 minutes a day hearing the scores on late night local news). I grew to love the statistics in baseball. 714 home runs Babe Ruth, 61 home runs Roger Maris, and so on. 100 RBI’s a season was a magic number, batting .300, 20 wins, etc. That love of stats still exits, sadly steroids has messed that up some, Arod, Bonds, Clemens.
Our league is roto rules. One winner, 19 losers. You win by getting stats or numbers. The more HR your team has than other teams, the more RBI, Saves, etc. the higher up in the standings is your team. This league is not weekly results, or weekly team matchups, but a grind to the last day of the season in statistics.
What keeps your interest if you are in 12th place in August? You can’t win the league, and there are no playoffs for 8 teams. You stay interested because you want to grind, to move up in the standings, to improve your record over last year, to move up 3 spots in the standings so you can acquire $6 more cap spendings for next year, or a prospect called up in September or any other month. who is un-drafted, and you sneak in on a hunch, and win a free agent bid on him. I got Jeff McNeil for $1 this way. And, the process is more “fun” than the outcome.
If you are an impatient person, like instant gratification (like todays culture) then this league is not for you. Only grinders who love to play, trade, and compete. The other league I am, set up just like this one, has over 50 trades since December 15th. There are a good 15 of 20 managers who are grinders. I welcome comments.
