I will be away all day tomorrow (Jan. 14, 2024) so I figured I would write this up now. Moneyballer’s 2024 season officially opens Monday, January 15, 2024 at 12:01 am. For all relevant 2024 dates and deadlines, please refer to this thread: salarycap2020.freeforums.net/thread/2942/2024-league-dates. One important issue still remains in limbo. We have three teams currently without owners (Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles, and, recently, Pittsburgh Pirates). Sadly, recruiting new owners has been challenging, chiefly because what used to be the go-to site for finding new owners (NBC/RotoWorld) ended up shutting down a few months ago. There are other venues, but none nearly as focused or as active. I am hopeful that there will be an uptick in activity after the Super Bowl and when Yahoo Fantasy Baseball comes back on line for 2024. Meanwhile, if you know of anyone who might be interested, please let me know. The bottom line is that we have some gaps, and the best way to fill them is for me to take temporary and limited control of those three teams until I find viable replacement owners (a caretaker’s role, so to speak). I will release and resign players, promote forced call-ups, and if necessary, later I will draft prospects for those open teams — most likely by choosing the highest available player off the top 400 ranked prospects when that team is ready to draft. I will not, however, enact trades and I will not bid on any free agents. Therefore, please do not seek trades from any of these three teams until new owners are found. Respond here with your thoughts and suggestions. I will update you periodically on this thread and by private message.

I would submit we consider contracting a couple teams. Without RW leagues are harder to fill and this league is only for the top 5% of fantasy baseball players, which is why we love it but its also probably why we have 1-2 players quit every year.
Contracting to a lower number makes sense to me.

I know that they have contracted from 20 to 18 teams over at our cousin league (“Fantasy Baseball Elite.”)
While this is worth consideration, I would prefer to remain at 20 and continue to search for owners — at least for the time being.
That said, I definitely think we should continue to discuss.

I feel it's to late to contract this year, but if recruitment continues to be difficult this year, it's definitely a conversation to have to maybe implement for the start of next year.

There are four leagues like this one. We average about 3 new managers each year for each league. We lose managers mostly in the bottom half of the standings. I have always been able to recruit managers for our leagues.
Two problems with todays climate: 1) Culture wanting immediate rewards. We don’t have that with this league concept. 2) Biggest factor is losing NBC Rotoworld/Edge website for recruiting. It’s gone! That was the only source for recruiting I ever used. It was awesome. Now, I’ve found a few Facebook sites and a few others scattered about. None are very good.
Yes, next season we may need to consolidate some. Let’s hope a new dominant site emerges.
