We are scheduled to draft 26 rounds. Chances are we will have players go on the DL at the start of the season. Last year I had seven on the DL day one.
Drafting 24 rounds instead of 26 rounds for some teams makes sense. Some players will be put on the DL at the last minute. Yahoo has done that before. Everyone knows the player is on the DL but Yahoo doesn’t always acknowledge it until the last minute, no matter how obvious. Drafting a few rounds less will allow teams to target free agents to cover those positions lost to the DL.
Also, some players from our prospect drafts will be starting day one of the season. If we have drafted 26 players and there is no one the DL, we would have to buyout a player to promote a prospect. Doesn’t make sense to draft and sign a player and then a week later buyout his contract.
I think it best all teams draft 24 rounds with rounds 25 & 26 optional. Thoughts?

I still say 26 mainly because on contracts. That's 40 players that we could get on cheaper deal rather than get into a bidding war with other owners. And if players that we drafted in the MiLB draft start in the majors, don't we have the option to call them up or keep them down until the hit the 150/50 limit? Again, this is more of a contract/money concern more than anything.
Also, I'm new to a league like this so I may have totally misunderstood the rules

I think draft all 26. If you want to promote a prospect, you can do it immediately and drop a player or wait.

I think teams should be given the option to pass their pick since if I understand the rules correctly they’d incur a buyout penalty for dropping a player to open a roster spot for a prospect.

I believe we should definitely still include those last two rounds since we began the draft with that in mind. However, if some teams choose to pass on those picks (or any of their picks for that matter) to keep some roster flexibility for the start of the season then I don't really see any issues with that.

Can't change the number of rounds now that the draft has started... go the distance with 26.

I like Jason's idea of having the option to pass a pick

Can't change the number of rounds now that the draft has started... go the distance with 26. I think Jim’s quote sums up the correct response. There will be a bunch of guys on the DL. Teams will need extra players. Won’t be too many buyouts and if a team needs to buyout a contract it should be no more than $1 or $2 Am closing the thread.
